Newborn Session {Fort Gibson, Oklahoma Newborn Photographer}

After visiting with several clients this week that are not familiar with the details of what a newborn session includes, I decided to write a post to explain all the details of what goes into a newborn session! (Get ready for sweetness overload) ♥♥♥

FIRST, lets go over what type of images a newborn session with Tera Shores Photography produces!

 These sleepy, sweet, perfect little angles are best photographed between 5-12 days old.  Any older than that and they will unfortunately not stay asleep for all the fun poses and maneuvering we do with them!

Images are taken in my studio, here in Fort Gibson, OK, with a temperature of approximately 80 degrees; so be ready to sweat a little and try to dress accordingly.  The reason the studio stays so warm is to ensure babies are nice and toasty to remain in this deep sleep for the entirety of the session.

To ensure that babies are nice and sleepy, ready for their session, please attempt (I know it's difficult, that is why I said "attempt") to keep your baby up for a bit before heading to the studio. Possible suggestions may be to take a bath, do some tummy time, or get them undressed for awhile.

Babies also need to be NICE and FULL to go into a deep sleep for their session.  Clients are asked to feed their babies RIGHT before heading to the studio.  When you arrive, I will ask you to top the baby off before we get started. 
{If you are breastfeeding, we have a couch for feeding.  It is normal to take a break during the session (multiple breaks) for feeding}
{If you are formula feeding, my studio is located just to the East of my house, and I will be happy to warm anything up for you!}

Newborn sessions take between 2-3 hours and will include 10-12 different poses.  These poses sometimes take 10-15 minutes to set up perfectly so baby is deep asleep, relaxed, and position just PERFECT for that picture! (so don't get worried if it takes a bit mommy :)

I will need an assistant during the entire shoot to help with posing, keeping baby safe, and holding items that I need to assist me to capture the perfect image.  I ask that Mommy, Daddy, Grandma, or Grandpa assist me and help spot the baby at all times during the session.

SAFETY is my #1 priority and will be discussed a the beginning of every session and monitored during every pose.

All props pictured above as well as many others are provided by Tera Shores Photography and can be used during the session. If there is a specific prop or item you would like included in a image or two, please bring this with you and we will see what we can get!

No clothes will be needed so don't stress. Baby will be naked, wrapped, or posed accordingly. 

The studio is also prepared with extra wipes and diapers so don't stress about bringing your whole nursery!  (I know what it's like to have a newborn, getting them here is enough work!)

During these sessions, newborns often pee, poop, or spit up several times while posing and maneuvering the baby.  THIS IS NORMAL! No biggy, but be prepared with extra burp rag or two as well as a few extra newborn diapers if you do not wish to use mine.

Newborn sessions are primarily focused on capturing the itty bittiness, innocence, and perfection of your beautiful newborn; we can also grab a few pictures of mommy or daddy.  (Siblings can be added in as well, but will only be included in a few shots). Wearing something simple and solid colored will  be best for these photos.

Newborn photography is something that is special, unique, and once-in-a-lifetime.  Your brand new baby will be crawling, walking, and talking before you know it.  The perfection of a newborn baby is something you will enjoy having captured on camera forever! ADVANCE

Last weekend was SUCH a unique experience and helped me ADVANCE my photography business. (Hints the name ADVANCE).  This workshop was an all day event put on by two of the BEST photographers in the Tulsa,OK area.  I was so excited to meet both Madison Vining and Trisha Jimenez of Madison Vining Photography &TG Photography.  This workshop wasn't a normal workshop where we talk about using our camera; but instead, we talked about advancing our business to the next level by offering unique and quality products to our clients, creating images that are one-of-a-kind for our customers, and most importantly offering a unique experience and premier night for our wonderful clients.  I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to attend!  Now, I know that I can offer a unique experience that not all photographers can offer to their clients.  

While attending the workshop, we received some awesome giveaways in our swag bags (♥ swag bags) as well as drawings and freebies!!!!!!! (also ♥ freebies, who doesn't???  If you don't, your crazy)! One of the prizes I won was a shootsac lens bag from www.shootsac.com.  I will be carrying this bag with me everywhere I shoot!!!!  Now, I can carry my additional lenses and chase little ones at the same time!  (If you can't tell, I'm a little excited! Okay.....aside from the AWESOME shootsac; I heard many things that I NEEDED to hear.  (Thanks Madison and Trisha :)  The business side of photography is something that is important not only to  provide for my family, but MOST importantly to offer a special and unique experience to my clients. This experience is not always part of the deal with local photographers.  The idea of a Premier Night where my clients get to view all of their beautiful images and select packages that can only be purchased on premier night is such a fun experience......Wait, It doesn't stop there!  At your Premier Night, which is scheduled at your home after the kids are in bed (think of it as a date night in), we will indulge in a yummy dessert provided courtesy of the Courtyard Bistro while viewing a slideshow of your images and discussing beautiful products to display in your home.  Don't know what size canvas to put in that spot, not sure where to place your collage wall, unsure of what sizes to put where.  Don't worry!  Let me help you and answer all your questions on premier night!  This Premier Night experience is just one of the many things I learned while attending ADVANCE and I am so thankful I did.  And trust me, you will be too!

Oh Baby

After many years of friendship, I was ecstatic to help my close friend Kari, and her husband Bryce, bring their third little girl into this world at St. Fancis South in Tulsa, OK. Assisting all my clients as a birth professional and having the privilege of being in the delivery room is always a huge honor but this birth was unique. Not only helping my clients achieve a goal they have set for themselves, but also capturing these special moments on camera is SO EXCITING! I ♥ birth photography!

Last Friday was a bit different, knowing Kari and Bryce for many years now and developing a relationship with them made this a very unique and special moment. Kari had received epidurals with her last two births and really wanted a different experience this time. A natural birth is something she read about, prepared for, and longed for. Her and Bryce attended my mini childbirth course at my home here in Fort Gibson, OK several weeks before the birth! Bryce seemed on board and willing to do whatever it took to help Kari's dream of a natural birth come try.....Kari on the other hand, she was a bit doubtful. I continued to encourage her to research, read, practice breathing and visualizing with her husband in preparation of her natural birth. I ensured her that I knew she was a strong woman and with the help of her wonderful husband and a birth doula she WOULD succeed! 



After ONLY 4.5hrs of labor on Friday, June 14th Kari and Bryce had a beautiful baby girl! Kari DID IT! She finally experienced a completely natural, unmedicated birth! She even did it in a super cute gown and silver sparkly slippers :) All she could say after holding her sweet little girl is, "I can't believe I did that!" Bryce and I were not shocked that she did it....she did amazing the entire birth and really listened to the guidance I provided throughout the birth.

Daddy was a very proud and happy father. Not only for his beautiful new baby girl, but also for his beautiful sweet wife. She did amazing!

Thank you Kari and Bryce for giving me the privilege of not only serving as your doula but also allowing me to capture these special moments. They will forever me in my heart.
